Description
This piece was originally written as a final project for a science course. Each of the four movements portrays either one of the classical states of matter, or a shift therein. The first movement, a slow, steady affair radiates calm. The next two movements focus on liquid and melting. Each extensively features a five note theme presented in different ways. The third movement (Liquid) is very meditative. The final movement, Gas is lightning fast, and ends the work virtuosically. It was inspired by, closely resembles traditional Japanese Shamisen music. An alternative interpretation of the piece presents a more spiritual approach, with the alternative titles Invocation to Earth, Water, and Air.
